The Kids Are Solid Gold bring esteemed Australian singer-songwriter Alex Cameron to Newcastle in April with an intimate show at Newcastle University Students Union in support of the singer’s new album, Oxy Music, released in March. Cameron initially adopted the onstage persona of a failed musician and is still known for his often intensely brooding live shows. He is joined on the night by Canadian singer-songwriter Sean Nicholas Savage known for his varied musical styles and poetic lyrics who has been described as a madcap philosopher.

Originally from Sydney, Alex Cameron released his debut album, Jumping The Shark, in 2013 and has since toured extensively including support tours with Mac Demarco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Angel Olsen amongst others. Jumping The Shark was re-released in 2016 after Cameron struck up a friendship with Killers singer Brandon Flowers, securing song writing credits on a number of latter-day Killers tracks. Cameron’s own second album, Forced Witness, was released in 2017 followed by Miami Memory in September 2019.

With each new chapter of his music career Cameron has sought to reinvent and evolve using social injustices, male masculinity and sexual culture to inform his trademark caricatures and arch lyrical twists ensuring his audiences can always expect something new and inventive at every show.

Henry Rollins has described Cameron as, “an ever so slightly more well-adjusted Scott Walker.”

It's just a crack in the screen...... Not my usual kind of blog post. The smartphone has become part of everyday life. For a business like mine it had opened up new avenues to spread the word about my clients as a PR. I found some of these shut suddenly when my phone hurtled to the kitchen floor. Just a cracked screen. I worried the phone may cost a fortune to fix, but got similar quotes from about 3 people and so when one of them called back promising a 48 hr turnaraound, and 6 months warranty, I thought, I could trust the friendly voice of "John" at the other end of the line. The UPS driver arrived within 10 minutes and my phone was in a padded envelope off to Elite Phones And Computers in Manchester. This was a mistake.
