#DAVIDFORD @davidfordisdead #singersongwriter is on tour, with a stop @thecluny 6/6

“Unmissable – 5 out of 5.”  The Guardian
“One of Britain’s best.” The Times
“Genuine depth and striking authority.” Rolling Stone
"Smart, angry, witty, emotional songs, delivered with raw-throated passion.” The Telegraph
“Puts everything into every word.” The LA Times
“David Ford is the eternal thrill of a young man going way too far and pulling it off.” Word Magazine
“Sends a chill up the spine.” The Sunday Times

With four critically-acclaimed studio albums and a live show defined by the British music press as “unmissable,” DAVID FORD is essential listening for anyone who gives a damn about music.
Ford’s songs combine Americana, English melodicism and a touch of rock ‘n’ roll, tied together with finely-crafted lyrics. His emotive stories of social commentary, politics and love in a world going to hell are powerful, engaging and hark back to an era of classic songwriting. Think Tom Waits, Neil Young and Randy Newman. From raw-throated passion to delicate piano balladry, Ford’s music is intelligent, witty and authoritative.

Hailing from the South Coast of England, Ford has been lauded by press and public alike throughout his decade-long solo career. His debut album, I Sincerely Apologise For All The Trouble I’ve Caused, was included in both The Times and Word Magazine‘s top ten albums of the year and his latest album, Charge, was described by press as his “best album to date. ” His records have achieved number one slots on iTunes and in February 2014, a bizarre twist of fate saw him travelling to Paris to receive the French Grammy award for song of the year. Ford ended 2014 with a sell-out tour of the UK backed by a string quartet, playing selections from his new mini-album, The Arrangement. Then in a shift of direction that has come to typify his uniquely eclectic brand of creativity, Ford toured the UK in May 2015 with a show he called “The One-Man Full-Band Show”. This featured Ford playing an entire stage full of instruments linked together by a home-made array of loop machines and triggering devices that helped him produce a full-on rock show played by one person.
A multi-instrumentalist and master of the loop pedal, Ford’s mesmerising live performances regularly sell-out venues on both sides of the Atlantic. As well as playing headline shows to his devoted and loyal fan base, he has toured with and supported artists such as Elvis Costello, Ray LaMontagne, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Gomez, Aqualung, Richard Ashcroft, Suzanne Vega, Augustana, Ingrid Michaelson and Jakob Dylan.
Despite countless plaudits, the songwriter flies below the radar for many, a subject he has documented in a book entitled, I Choose This – How To Nearly Make It In The Music Industry. Yet Ford’s exquisite songwriting and powerful live performances ensure he remains one of the UK’s most important singer/songwriters in the eyes of critics and genuine music lovers.

North Tyneside Council presents

Ian Hunter And The Rant Band

Monday 3rd July 2017

7.30 pm

The PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay, in partnership with North Tyneside Council, is delighted to announce that Ian Hunter and The Rant Band will appear as part of the Mouth of the Tyne Festival on Monday the 3rd of July.

As leader of ‘70’s British rock legends Mott The Hoople and a hugely influential solo artist, Ian Hunter is widely revered as one of rock ‘n’ rolls most compelling performers, as well as one of its most articulate songwriters. As author of such immortal anthems as, All The Way From Memphis”, “Once Bitten, Twice Shyand Cleveland Rocksand the voice of such landmark albums as, All The Young Dudes”, “Mott”, “Ian Hunter” and Youre Never Alone With A Schizophrenic, he remains a hero to fellow musicians and fans around the world.

Whilst his achievements during his first decade as a recording artist would have been more than enough to ensure his iconic status, Hunter has never been one to coast on past glories. Indeed, in the past dozen years, hes made a series of riveting albums that stand with his best and most resonant work, while making a decisive return to touring, delivering incendiary live performances that show his fire to be burning as brightly as ever.

He was already a veteran of the London music scene by the time he joined Mott The Hoople in 1969. With Mott, he recorded four iconoclastic albums – “Mott The Hoople”, “Mad Shadows”, “Wildlifeand Brain Capersby the time they hit international stardom with the glam-rock anthem for a generation, the David Bowie penned, All The Young Dudes. The bands artistic and commercial success continued with Mottand The Hoople, between them, containing the hits, All The Way From Memphis”, “Honaloochie Boogie”, “Roll Away The Stoneand The Golden Age Of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. On their final tour, they took out a then little known band, Queen, who would have a hit single with a song about their experiences, Now Im Here. It would be the only time Queen would open for anyone and the band members would stay long term friends with Ian, contributing backing vocals to his All American Alien Boyalbum. Mott have also been credited by John Lydon (Sex Pistols) and Mick Jones (The Clash) as being one of the pioneers and inspirations behind the burgeoning punk/new wave movement. Later on, Ian would go on to produce Generation X’s “Valley Of The Dollsalbum and The Clash would play on Ian’s “Short Back ‘n’ Sidesrelease. Not many, if any, other artists could claim to have influenced bands as diverse as Queen and the Sex Pistols.

Mott disbanded in 1974 and Ian moved to New York, segueing into a celebrated solo career and quickly building a formidable body of solo work. The albums, “Ian Hunter”, “All American Alien Boy, “Overnight Angels”, “Youre Never Alone With A Schizophrenic”, “Short Back ‘n’ Sidesand All Of The Good Ones Are Takenbetween them featuring such diverse talents as the aforementioned Queen and The Clash, Mick Ronson, the then unknown jazz sensation, Jaco Pastorious and The E Street Band, of Bruce Springsteen fame.

Barry Manilow took one of Ians most personal songs, Shipsinto the charts and Great White had an international hit with their cover of Once Bitten, Twice Shy”.

Ian took time out to produce in the ‘80’s, returning in 1993, prompted by the death of his long time collaborator, Mick Ronson.

Since then, Ian has produced what many critics feel to be his best work to date, The Artful Dodger”, “Rant”, “Shrunken Heads”, “Man Overboardand When Im President. There are now a new generation of artists name-checking Ian as an influence; Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) to name but three.

Mott The Hoople have reformed twice and played two hugely successful tours. If anyone had any doubts as to the long lasting appeal and influence of Ians music, you would only have needed to peak at the scenes in Mott The Hooples dressing room after their London show where they were joined by; Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Mick Jones (The Clash), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) and John Squire (The Stone Roses), probably four of the most influential artists of all time.

As always, whilst proud of his past achievements, Ian would prefer to focus on the future. “To me, music is holy” Hunter asserts, adding “For the first fifteen years of my life, I had no idea what I was here for. But then Elvis came out and it was, “Oh, that’s what I am here for”. Rock ‘n’ roll got me out and gave me a great life and I don’t know what I would have done without it. It’s all I know and my identity is all tied up with it”.

formerly of Bucks Fizz

Friday 29th September 2017

Early in 1981, four complete strangers sat in the drawing room of a house in Fulham and were told: “you are now Bucks Fizz”.

In the eight weeks between that first meeting and appearing on “A Song for Europe” on 11th March 1981, Bucks Fizz were hurled into a melee of rehearsing, recording, routining, styling, interviews and photography. All that hard work and effort was to pay dividends - they went on to win the Song For Europe and Eurovision Song Contest 1981 and became household names around the world.

With over 20 singles released over the next few years including 3 number ones, “My Camera Never Lies”, “Land Of Make Believe” and of course, “Making Your Mind Up”, they sold in excess of 15 million records, spending 219 weeks in the UK charts alone! “Making Your Mind Up” went to No 1 in nine countries!

This is going to be a great night and the band always look forward to their concerts in the North East so get your mind made up and book your tickets today!

Tickets costing £23.50 will go on sale at 10 am on Friday the 9th of December 2017.

Tickets are available from the Box Office open Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm, Saturday 10.30am – 2.30pm plus until show start on event days. Tickets can also be purchased on the booking hotline 0844 248 1588* or online at

#gigannouncement #ERASURE play #Newcastle's @CityH4ll on 4/2/18 @erasureinfo Check out the Vince Clarke #remix of #loveyoutothesky

The Album, on Amazon

Exciting news:Erasure will return to Newcastle City Hall next year.

It’s hard to think of another songwriting partnership as golden as that of Erasure. For 32 years, without a break or break-up, Andy Bell and Vince Clarke have mined a rich seam of creativity that has led to chart-conquering singles, a string of immaculate albums, a BRIT, an Ivor Novello Award and now World Be Gone, their seventeenth studio album.

"Love You To The Sky" remix

It sees the duo enter their fourth decade with renewed creative charge. Instead of the heady, euphoric dance music of their 2014 album The Violet Flame, on World Be Gone the mood is thoughtful, reflective and reminiscent of 1995’s lush, experimental album Erasure.
Erasure’s buoyant grooves have often contained allusions to serious subject matter, but on their new album, World Be Gone they explicitly confront dark forces, while continuing to celebrate love’s light. ‘Lousy Sum of Nothing’ is a heartbreaking ballad for our post-truth age, with a sublime, sky-scraping chorus.

Since releasing their first single in 1985, Erasure have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. Their 30th anniversary celebrations saw them deliver a Top 10 collection of singles, a 13-disc career-spanning box set and vinyl editions of their entire back catalogue. Since then, they’ve been busier than ever. In addition to recording World Be Gone, in 2016 Vince Clarke set up his own label, Very Records, releasing 2Square, his collaboration with Paul Hartnoll, and the Reed & Caroline debut, Buchla & Singing. Andy Bell continued to explore the character of Torsten through the critically acclaimed theatrical production Torsten The Beautiful Libertine and an album of the same name. A remix album, further detailing this “polysexual semi-immortal” character was released in 2016. Bell’s solo debut album, Electric Blue, has been remastered and repackaged for release in 2017.

New #Tour for @ChrisReaMusic stopping at @CityH4ll #newcastle 20/11

Chris Rea
Returns to Newcastle City Hall
as part of his Road Songs for Lovers Tour 2017

Chris Rea has added two new shows to his European Tour and will be coming to Newcastle City Hall on Mon 20 Nov 2017, to celebrate the release of his new album, Road Songs For Lovers.

Like all truly great artists, Chris Rea has followed his own unique artistic vision and a path that is his and his alone. And although his exemplary musical output to date is deeply embedded into the framework of the world’s rock n roll DNA, it is also safe to say that his presence has been something of a glittering thorn in the side of an industry that has always had him down as a perennial outsider. Artist and painter, blues aficionado and self-confessed motoring nut, filmmaker and Italian-influenced classical music composer, eclectic and maverick are two terms that hardly come close to describing a man who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide for just being himself. In 2017 Rea returns to what he’s best known for: an album of gorgeous rock ballads which showcases Rea’s unique voice and a songwriting skill at the top of his game.

Born in Middlesbrough in 1951, Rea released his debut album in 1978 and promptly had a huge US hit with the first track to be lifted off the record, Fool If You Think It’s Over. In 1983, Rea's fifth studio album Water Sign sold over half a million copies after I Can Hear Your Heartbeat became a Top 20 hit all over Europe. Rea’s follow up, Wired To The Moon was also a huge success and attendant tours of Europe would ensure that Rea commandeered a significant fan-base that has stayed with him through subsequent decades.

In 2000, Rea’s, King Of The Beach reached the Top 30 but his well-documented illness meant that he took a brief sabbatical from recording before returning to his blues roots.

Rea is not alone in the company of musicians who found fame later in life – think Jarvis Cocker, Leonard Cohen – and indeed it is interesting to note that he didn’t achieve UK Top Ten single status until the release of The Road To Hell (pt2), a record that was actually his eighteenth chart entry. Perhaps it is this fact that makes Rea such a breath of fresh air and a man effortlessly in control of his own faculties as a singer songwriter. “I was never a rock star or pop star and all the illness has been my chance to do what I'd always wanted to do with music,” he says. “The best change for my music has been concentrating on stuff which really interests me.“  He is obviously referring to his love of motor racing, painting and the blues but if Road Songs For Lovers proves one thing it is this: you can add beautiful, poignant rock ‘n’ roll love songs to that pantheon of passions.

Chris Rea plays Newcastle City Hall on Mon 20 Nov 2017. Tickets on sale Friday 12 May from 9am.  Tickets from £51.00 and can be purchased at or from the Theatre Royal Box office on 08448 11 21 21 (Calls cost 7ppm plus your phone company’s access charge).

#video #WrapMeInAFever and tour for @RubyBootsBand with @NikkiLaneMusic including a @Sage_Gateshead date. #americana #nefollowers

Ruby Boots’ music will stop you in your tracks. The rising Australian star, now based in Nashville TN and signed with Universal Music, possesses a red wine-stained soulful voice that crackles with swagger and sorrow. Her fiercely honest lyrics strike deep into your heart while her music delivers an alluring mix of Americana, Rock, Folk and Blues. Leaving home at a young age, to work on pearling boats, is where she found the distance, space and time needed to hone her songwriting skills.

Her first full-length, ‘Solitude’ has been hailed as “a landmark Australian release” and a “world-class debut,” while scoring her a Song of The Year award for lead single, ’Wrap Me In A Fever.’ The ten tunes that populate ‘Solitude’ wrestle with universal themes filtered through Ruby’s captivating combination of vulnerability and strength. She displays an artistic confidence and emotional candour that evokes her heroes like Lucinda Williams as well as such Americana contemporaries as Nikki Lane and Shovels and Rope.

Recently named as an  ‘Americana Festival 2016 Showcasing Artist to Watch’ by renowned US magazine, American Songwriter. Ruby releases her second album later this year, authentically produced by Beau Bedford (Paul Cauthen / The Texas Gentlemen). This summer Ruby will tour the UK with kindred country revivalist Nikki Lane on the Highway Queen Tour.

After sold-out headlining concerts in New York City, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Toronto and more, plus an amazing 5 week tour this Spring with Gregory Alan Isakov, boasting nearly sold-out shows each night, Montreal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk is happy to continue the Twin Solitude journey with summer festival dates across Canada and Europe and a fall European headlining tour in November.

Vollebekk will be taking part in many iconic festivals such as Les Inrocks in France; Best Kept Secret in Netherlands; Hurricane & Southside in Germany; FEQ, Vancouver Folk, Calgary Folk and Osheaga in Canada and more, before headlining concerts in ten countries across Europe in November. See full listing below.

Twin Solitude has been met with accolades from critics all over the world including NPR, The Fader, Uncut, Paste Magazine, Rolling Stone France, The Sunday Times Culture, Boston Globe, The Globe and Mail and more, plus radio play across Europe and North America, playlisting on Spotify’s New Music Friday in twelve countries as well as appearing on Spotify’s Viral Chart week of release in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Vollebekk wrote the ten-song ‘Twin Solitude’ while re-calibrating from a creatively taxing period on the road, a time where his own songs just didn’t feel right to him. He began to find beauty in the everyday vignettes that made up his life at home and on the road: finding inspiration in a bike ride, a Moog synthesizer, an untuned guitar, a Nick Drake record.

"Devastatingly beautiful" - NPR Songs We Love

"It's an invitation to travel - to the cobblestones of old Montreal on a bicycle, to the expanse of Montana in the back of a family car, to the Pacific coast in Vancouver, to Iceland, to Paris - and to the darkest corners of your heart." - World Cafe

"The album exudes a meditative joy"  - The Village Voice

"It’s his best work yet. Take a look at him now." - The Globe and Mail

"A collection of gorgeous, spacious, piano-led melancholia." - The Boston Globe

"Passionate Broken Social Scene-adjacent melodies wrapped in a casual, jammy atmosphere." – The Fader

"Lovely, soulful and spare." - Brooklyn Vegan

“Rarely simple, Twin Solitude is a striking display of Leif Vollebekk's talent and heart. 8/10” - Exclaim!
