Music pioneer Steve Hackett recently announced the release of his new solo album Wolflight.   According to the man himself, this “wild pack of tracks – starting with a wolf cry – will be unleashed on the unsuspecting on 30th March 2015.”

A teaser trailer for the album, featuring the first exciting snippets of new music plus some insight from Steve himself, can be viewed here:

From a plaintive wolf cry to Steve embracing real wolves (see sleeve below), exploring dark caverns, ancient ruins and tropical lagoons, primal energy is at the root of this album as a springboard to an exotic and exciting adventure.

The album will be released on the following formats:

Special edition CD+Blu-ray Mediabook incl. 5.1 mix, interviews & two bonus tracks
Standard CD jewelcase
2LP Gatefold vinyl
Digital download

A short video message from Steve about the album can be viewed here:

Wolflight is Steve’s first original solo studio album since Beyond The Shrouded Horizon in 2011.  Primal and orchestral, it retains the Hackett trademark as electric guitar runs right the way through with a regular sprinkling of acoustic.  The concept behind it is a new unexplored chapter in the guitarist’s career.

The ten tracks take the listener through a journey in space and time looking at the different faces of the endless fight for freedom. Wandering between parallel universes, Hackett explores contemporary and ancient cultures, from Greece (Corycian Fire) to the Far East (Wolflight), the USA and Martin Luther King (Black Thunder), but also his very own childhood memories (The Wheel’s Turning) and the unresolved drama of domestic violence (Love Song to a Vampire).
An excited Steve Hackett tells us more about the record: “My new rock album Wolflight is at the ready and lying in wait. It reflects everybody's struggle for freedom on a journey travelling through both inner and outer space. It explores sounds from as far afield as Greece, Azerbaijan, the deep American South, Sahara desert and beyond, from all our yesterdays, evoking the ancient past”.

Steve Hackett's electric guitar plays a powerful role, whilst we also hear him on acoustic guitar, Arabian lute and twelve string, along with his strong lead vocals.  Guest Musicians include long time collaborators Roger King (Keyboards & programming), Gary O’Toole (drums), Rob Townsend (sax, duduk), Nick Beggs (bass & stick) and Amanda Lehmann (harmony vocals).  Malik Mansurov on tar and Sara Kovaks on didgeridoo add an extra exotic element, plus YES bassist Chris Squire plays on Love Song to a Vampire and Hugo Dagenhardt plays drums on Dust and Dreams.  The innovative song writing team includes Steve Hackett, his wife Jo Hackett and also Roger King.

1.    Out of the Body
2.    Wolflight
3.    Love Song to A Vampire
4.    The Wheel’s Turning

@punchdrunkBlyth bringing #monthly #comedy to #Blyth with @kaihumphries @northumbrianass and @philnicol #nefollowers

A BLYTH RESIDENT is hoping the sound of laughter will help breathe new life into his local community.

Gavin Humphries and his brother, stand-up comic Kai Humphries, have launched a new comedy night at Newsham Side-Club on Winship Street.
Punch-Drunk Comedy aims to bring the world's best stand-up talent to Northumberland, with future line-ups featuring the likes of Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Phil Nichol, local legend Gavin Webster and Jason Cook, creator of the BBC Two sitcom Hebburn.
But more importantly, the Blyth brothers hope the night will help bring their local community back together - if only for once a month.
"In an age when we spend more time than ever before behind a keyboard, we want to bring the community spirit back to Blyth," Gavin explained.
"The bars, pubs and clubs in the area are steadily disappearing from the social map, but the requirement for us to enjoy each other's company is not.

"With Punch-Drunk we are creating a movement towards social reconnection.  Yes, the night will be centred around laughter, but beyond that it's fast becoming a landmark social event in the monthly calendar.

"There will be an hour either side of the gig itself in which to strengthen existing friendships and make new ones, as well as two interval breaks during the show."

As part of Punch-Drunk's community drive, the comedy club has teamed up with local charity Princess Ellie’s Trust.

Punch-Drunk donate 30 tickets for each show, from which the charity, run by Rachel & Dan Long, keeps 100% of the takings for their wonderful cause.

The opening night, which featured TV star Daniel Sloss, raised £486.19 for Princess Ellie's Trust.

Such was the success of Punch-Drunk's launch, the comedy club's next show at Newsham Side-Club sold out in just five days, prompting Gavin to add a second date on Tuesday 17th February.

"The launch event was a huge success," Gavin said. "It was clear from the social media fervour in the weeks leading up to the event - and since then - that we've captured the imagination of the community and that they've embraced our ethos.

"The clamour for seats was such that we decided to add a back-to-back event on the Tuesday.

"Punch-Drunk 2 features another line-up of top-drawer acts, including Dan Nightingale, Andy Fury and Daliso Chaponda, as well as one or two surprises up our sleeves."

Tickets for the show, priced £7, are on sale now via Ticket Source.

Tickets are also available by calling or texting Gavin Humphries on 07738663379, or in person at either Les Belles or Headkase.

Punch-Drunk 2, Newsham Side-Club, Blyth, Tuesday 17th February, doors 7pm, show 8pm.
