Wendy James Cluny 22/09/2021

Wendy James has taken nothing for granted. A woman who has seen the good and the bad in the music industry in the last 5 decades, she has not lost sight of what makes a musician successful and feel loved : the fans.

Her gracious and professional approach to this gig as well as her willingness to break the fourth wall and engage with the audience, made this gig a real pleasure.

Her band, comprising 5 talented musicians including multi instrumentalists, made the songs of the past and Wendy’s newer material really shine in the Cluny. Wendy did point out the setlist has changed throughout the tour. We were treated to glam rock banger You’re A Good Man and Dylan’s Crawl Out Your Window in addition to Transvision Vamp’s own I Want Your Love, Baby I Don’t Care and Tell That Girl To Shut Up. Songs from Wendy’s recent Queen’s High Straight album also had a chance to be properly beefed up with the 3 guitar live treatment: Here Comes The Beautiful One, Little Melvin, and Perilous Beauty all pleased the appreciative crowd in the Cluny. Wendy told little stories in between the songs, including her irreverent inclusion in a copy of Viz Comic back in the day, and the inspiration for You’re A Dirtbomb Lester about  the late Rolling Stone Journalist, Lester Bangs.

This was a highly entertaining gig with an energetic band, and a fabulous, warm and engaging frontwoman. Be sure to catch the Wendy James Band if you can in the near future.
