New releases and tour dates from Julie Grant, Holy Moly and the Crackers, Andrew Combs and Skinny Lister

Marry Yourself
By
Julie Grant

The new single from Julie Grant Marry Yourself celebrates being single, dispelling the myth that everyone must find a partner to be complete. It's not anti-marriage, it's just saying you don't need to become a wife or husband in order to be accepted in to society. Women especially think this is a must and it's not. It's sending out a very positive message to everyone, whatever their gender. The song is not autobiographical unlike the B-side : Hang For It.

The single is due for release in March 2019. The video will feature: a woodpecker, confetti, a Barbie doll and a bicycle... stoic/nonchalant male band and a jolly female singer. Julie is also celebrating being an older single woman, not dependent on the exposure of flesh to elicit a response. Listen here

Julie is writing a play based on Green and Purple, a song about domestic violence where the perpetrator is the mother. This is autobiographical and promises to be a hard-hitting yet sensitive piece of drama.
The band will be playing live dates (TBC) in early 2019 to introduce the new songs, and the new band to new audiences.

ANDREW COMBS

RETURNS FOR JANUARY UK SHOWS

+ DEBUT ALBUM 'WORRIED MAN' GETS THE DELUXE TREATMENT

ANDREW COMBS will be returning to the UK this January for a string of live dates as part of his 2019 European tour. The news arrives as Combs unveils his first album is to be re-released digitally with two newly recorded versions of songs + repackaged and available on vinyl for the first time.

With the deluxe digital reissue of Andrew Combs’ debut album Worried Man the Texas-bred, Nashville based artist has been given that rare opportunity; a do-over. The deluxe version of Worried Man (reissued via Loose), will include two songs from the album Andrew has re-recorded for the release.

The first of those tracks, “Too Stoned To Cry (2019 Recut)”, was released today on all digital services. Listen here.

Andrew has continued to perform the song live, but it has never felt exactly right to him in its original recording. “I've always wanted to re-record ‘Too Stoned to Cry,’” said Combs of the track. “I love the song, but can't stand my vocal take on the original. I sound so young and pitchy! This is just an updated version, somewhat replicating how we play it every night on the road.”

Andrew also took on “Take It From Me” and reworked the track for the deluxe digital reissue. He recounts, “I've always liked the sentiment of the song, but the original musical arrangement now bores me a little bit. We decided change it up a bit, going for a glossy, Chris Isaak kind of feel.”

Worried Man will be re-issued on 18 January, repackaged and available for the first time on heavyweight white vinyl, as well as on CD and as a deluxe digital package.

Focusing on the present, Andrew Combs will undertake his most extensive European tour to date, with shows throughout the UK, The Netherlands, Germany and Scandinavia starting this week and continuing into early February. Andrew then returns to the US for dates, pairing for co-bills with Erin Rae, then Caitlin Rose. UK dates as follows:

HOLY MOLY

AND THE CRACKERS

ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ’TAKE A BITE’ - 5 APRIL

WATCH VIDEO FOR EUPHORIC SINGLE:  “ALL I GOT IS YOU”

+ 2019 LIVE DATES

HOLY MOLY & THE CRACKERS
make riotous party music for the masses

Take A Bite is a concise, passionate take on folk, blues and indie rock.

Led by the euphoric lead single, All I Got Is You, Take A Bite combines pop song craft with stomping, four to the floor backing, demonstrating the Newcastle-based sextet’s commerciality and ambition, as well as their ability to tackle personal lyrical fare, deftly led by vocalist Ruth Patterson. Further adorning their naturally expressive take on British folk with sizeable dollops of rock'n'soul, sharp indie-rock, vulnerable balladeering and festival-ready psychedelic trips towards the Middle East, 'Take A Bite' sets its stall confidently in the previously unoccupied space between the Gossip, Arctic Monkeys, the B52s and Gogol Bordello.

Working once again with producer Matt Terry (The Prodigy/The Enemy), the band – completed by Conrad Bird on vocals/guitar/trumpet, Rosie Bristow on accordion, Nick Tyler on electric guitar, Jamie Shields on bass and Tommy Evans on drums/backing vocals – created Take A Bite at VADA Studios in Warwickshire, where the band recorded their 2017 album ‘Salem’ and their breakthrough track ‘Cold Comfort Lane’ (which a year later featured in the end credits of 2018 summer blockbuster movie, Oceans 8).

This time around the recording process was marked by a shift in production technique from Matt Terry. “Usually, you’ll record all the drum tracks and then all the bass tracks. But this time we recorded one song at a time and completely lived it”. The band even went one step further during the recording of the Byrds-influenced, folk-rock Can’t Get Enough, with producer Matt creating an immersive 60s experience in the studio. “Matt’s mad! For that one he made us dress up in 60s clothes, bandanas, suits, flares,” Conrad laughs. “And it was really silly, but it really got us to live it.”

And while the violin and the accordion remain, the whole thing feels rawer now. Riff-heavy, even. With melodic choruses more in the vein of American rockers such as The Black Keys and Jack White, than the tweed and waistcoats of traditional UK folk. ‘Take A Bite’ reflects the diverse tastes of a band, comprised of six friends with six individual music tastes, who come together to make a sound greater than the sum of its parts.

WORLD TOUR IN 2019 - ON SALE NOW

Launching into the new year with a seismic new single, London six-piece - SKINNY LISTER - today release ‘My Distraction’.

A premier piece of procrastination-inspired power-pop goodness, ‘My Distraction’ finds its touch points in the angular and playful sounds comparable to Blondie or The Jam at their peak. A new-wave flecked, sugar-coated thrill clocking in at just over the two-and-a half-minute mark, the single is the latest cut to be lifted from the band’s highly anticipated new album: ’The Story Is…’ (out 1st March 2019, on Xtra Mile Recordings).

On typically fun-loving form, ‘My Distraction’ is of course companioned with a wonderfully tongue-in-cheek new video that sees the band playing on the track’s themes of our tech-binging addictions. In scenes perhaps best described as ‘GoggleBox meets Star Trek’, the video finds frontwoman Lorna Thomas unexpectedly transported across space and time at the hands of her TV remote… Watch the new video here.

Offering further insight into the themes of the new single, Skinny’s Dan & Lorna say:

“’My Distraction’ is about being so obsessed with something that everything else falls by the wayside. When only one thing is in focus and everything else is merely background noise. Even though written initially with broader meaning, the lyrics are particularly fitting for our current fixation with modern technology and, even more particularly, our tethering of ourselves to our smart phones.”

As with the rest of the upcoming 2019 album ‘The Story Is…’ ‘My Distraction’ was recorded, produced and mixed with the producer extraordinaire Barny Barnicott (Arctic Monkeys, The Enemy, The Temper Trap). The single directly follows on from previous singles ‘38 Minutes’  and title-track ‘The Story Is…’.

A loosely-based concept album, ‘The Story Is…’ anthologises a series of personal vignettes inspired by a chaotic few years for the band and binds them into 14 tracks of unmistakably Skinny-sounding rock’n’roll. Gather-in close and lend your ears as Skinny Lister rifle through ‘The Story Is…’ and pull out: scorched stories of aggravated arsonists (‘Artist Arsonist’), rib-tickling tales of regretful re-fuellings (‘Diesel Vehicle’), and even polemic pleas inspired by some of life’s hardest lessons (‘Stop & Breathe’).

’The Story is…’ is released via Xtra Mile Recordings on 1st March 2019.  Pre-order the album here: https://skinnylister.lnk.to/thestoryis

With one of the most reputable live shows in the business (hailed as “a deafening and visceral experience” - The Independent, 5/5), Skinny Lister will also be touring ‘The Story Is…’ with a series of their tenacious live shows across the UK & Europe in 2019.

Don’t miss your chance to become part of their latest adventures as the band embark on a two-leg UK tour, plus fix dates in Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, Holland and Belgium throughout the Spring. (Dates below).
