BIG NEWS FOR VIDEO GAMERS
AS A NEW FESTIVAL IS ANNOUNCED FOR THE NORTH EAST
METRO RADIO ARENA NEWCASTLE
SATURDAY 30TH JUNE – SUNDAY 1ST JULY 2018
YouTube superstars, celebrity gamers, renowned games and more are coming to Newcastle this summer at an exciting new 2 day festival called Glitch, on 30th June and 1st July.
Glitch is set to takes place at Metro Radio Arena and will showcase the latest games alongside an extensive range of event content, including stage shows, pro eSports tournaments, 80 plus retro games arcade, music and innovative activities. Stage shows will offer death matches and interviews with legend, John Romero, considered a father of the first-person shooter genre with Doom, and YouTube sensations Yogscast Hat Films and Vidiots.
Games design personalities John and Brenda Romero each have more than three decades of experience in the games industry, during which they’ve received multiple awards and accolades for their work. John, co-creator of legendary titles Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake, among many others, is recognised as a pioneer of the first-person shooter genre. Also live on stage, with chat room style interviews, and hosting meet and greet sessions on both day will be the Yogscast team from Hat Films who are well known for playing Minecraft, Trials Evolution and a variety of other games and the team from Vidiots. The event will also feature other soon to be announced notorious YouTubers, a retro gaming section, retail expo, a showcase of Northern games companies and ‘The Spark’ an area aimed at inspiring the next generation of game developers.
The move comes as demand has grown for a gaming and YouTuber event to be held in the North of the country that merges elements of LAN parties, eSports, a convention, developers and big YouTuber names. The event is a result of a partnership between leading event management company She’s Gott It, Metro Radio and Metro Radio Arena. The partnership was formed following a desire by all partners to develop a video gaming event that would become the biggest in the north and enable gamers to access exciting events without having to travel further south. The team are working with Northern England games network and consultancy Game Republic Ltd and are all excited to bring this mighty programme to the region.
Ailsa Oliver General Manager for the venue said “We are so excited to be hosting such an incredible event; this is a show that the North East has been crying out for and with names such as John Romero already announced this just confirms the level of quality fans can expect from the entire weekend. Whatever your level of interest Glitch has it all”
The event also promises to bring together partners who can demonstrate the exciting career opportunities in tech industries from programmers to developers and it is this that has been a long time mission of Managing Director of She’s Gott It, Nickie Gott OBE. Gott said “we are so excited to be creating this event for our region and something of this scale north of the country. We have a wealth of tech industries in the north and I really want to use this event to inspire and inform our future generation that having a job in game development is a reality and can be made possible here in the North East. We have an exciting programme lined up and will be introducing new and exciting features as we get closer to the event, we just can’t wait for this to happen. We know that many gamers have to travel far and wide to interact with these types of festivals to ask questions or get advice or even get a chance for a meet and greet with renowned YouTubers and developers. We are even adding a minor Glitch area for a younger audience to join in to make sure all ages are engaged and excited by the activities. I am personally thrilled that we also have Brenda Romero with us to support the aspiration of growth of women in tech industries. I would love to see this as an annual event on the regions calendar and I would urge gamers at any level to come and play for fun, join a tournament or even get a selfie with one of your favourite YouTube stars.”
