Review: Eddie and the Hot Rods at Hessle Town Hall 26/07/2014

Eddie  and The Hot Rods and The Members
 at Hessle Town Hall

This gig proved that no matter how old one is on the outside, we are still the same person inside. Both Eddie and the Hot Rods, and the support act: The Members, played with the same attitude and infectious enthusiasm as in their punk heyday in the 70’s.

A healthy sized crowd filed into the Town Hall and collected their drinks from the kitchen-hatch serving as a bar. The beer was choice of a light and a dark ale from Great Newsome Brewery. These proved to be tasty although refrigeration was not available.

The crowd appreciated the familiar punk classics like The Members’ The Sound of the Suburbs (they have some great new songs as well, check them out) and some interesting
covers from the Rods including Ian Hunter's Once Bitten Twice Shy.

It was good to witness a special appearance from original Hot Rods drummer Steve Nicol standing in for Simon Bowley who has been in that seat for several years. We had a great time dancing to favourites like Gloria, Quit This Town and of course Do Anything You Wanna Do

The songs were solidly held together by Barrie Masters on vocals, Dipster on bass and Chris Taylor and Richard Holgarth on guitars. Two great bands at a surprisingly good venue for rock music.Check out the Eddie and the Hot Rods Giglist on their website..they are touring all over the shop!
