And on that website you can find out more about all the programmes on NE1fm and how you might be able to get involved in community radio. There are always open mic slots in the morning from 10-12, and with a little training and a bit of paperwork you could be presenting your own show. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes and you could get experience in everything that makes community radio tick. Get in touch via NE1fm.net.
Theatre for your diary: Steptoe and Son at Northern Stage
12-16th March at Northern Stage
Adapted and directed by Emma Rice from the legendary scripts of Galton and Simpson, this new co-production between long time collaborators Kneehigh and West Yorkshire Playhouse charts the tender, cruel and surprising dance of father and son. This new interpretation breathes life into characters which generations of viewers know and love. Taking on the roles of one of television’s most famous pairings are Kneehigh’s Mike Shepherd playing Albert and Dean Nolan making his Kneehigh debut as dreamer Harold.
Based in Cornwall, Kneehigh is celebrated as one of the UK’s most exciting theatre companies. The company has been around for nearly 30 years. A multi-talented team of performers, technical staff, and artists create anarchic, fun and enjoyable theatre.
Riise Music Update
It's been an eventful couple of weeks for Riise. With Junior Turner working on his new video to compliment his song "Hurt", a very emotional time for Mr Turner with the memories of the inspiration for the song all being evoked by the atmosphere of the shoot. Junior is releasing a DVD featuring his album launch performance at Tynemouth Grand Hotel, and some background about the songs on the album "Under Scrutiny". You can see Junior in the "Singing Alang the Scotswood Road" show at the Tyne Theatre on 30th March.
Denature have been all hands on deck creating a new single "Breathe" as an introduction to their new sound after Richard and Anna of Anna and the Kings move on to pastures new. They are working hard on more songs, and I hope to share them with you as soon as they are ready. Denature have moved into a more electronic based genre but with Anna's accomplished vocals and Richards guitar contributing to a much richer sound scape, and crackingly good songs. I'm looking forward to hearing more, and getting the opportunity to play some Denature for you on NE1fm.
So, that's all for now. Listen to NE1fm at 12 noon on Mondays to get the lowdown on the gigs, theatre, comedy and random happenings that have caught my eye.
