@vamos_social : a versatile cultural hub in the heart of #Newcastle

Get social with iVAMOS! at the heart of Newcastle!

Sharing the same building as Jowheretogo PR is a real cultural gem in the city centre:

Newcastle’s new cultural hub iVAMOS! Social, which is delivered by ¡VAMOS! and Breeze Creatives, has opened its doors and is set to present an up-and-coming programme of Latin infused events at its Market Street residence.

Located on the ground floor of Bamburgh House which already hosts various creative organisations under its roof, its reformation has transformed the venue from a previous nightclub into a social space that runs both day and night in partnership with Northeast arts organisation, Breeze Creatives.

iVAMOS! Social founder and iVAMOS! Festival Director Nik Barrera said: “iVAMOS! Social aims to introduce a vibrant community centre for everyone from Wednesday to Saturdays by offering food and drinks, DJ events, live music and film screenings. Plans for development in the near future includes workshops, markets, exhibitions, talks and hot-desking opportunities.

A permanent residence for the region born renowned Latin festival iVAMOS!, which celebrated its’ 10th Anniversary in June 2015, hosted five events including exhibition openings, film screenings and international DJS in its new social space as part of its debut.

Nik Barrera added: “This is finally a place for us to call home. It might not be entirely iVAMOS! festival related after this opening but iVAMOS! will be at the heart of what happens here.”

iVAMOS! Social officially opened its doors on 26th September 2015 with its first monthly edition of World Disco, featuring a myriad of tunes from different locations such as Afro house beats, Iranian pop, Bollywood and Brazil Disco. Other monthly series introduced at the space within the last few weeks included ‘Mi Casa Su Casa’ (featuring Salsa tunes), ‘Masterjamz’ (an 80s/funk jams night), ‘Kizomba’ (playing sensual, Angolan-originated beats) and much more to come.

Since the opening on 30th of October as a dynamic daytime hub, ¡VAMOS! Social has been embraced by everyone delighted by its transformation from a former nightclub. A variety of Latino cuisine is found on the simple and fun bar menu, such as the Bocadillo (Spanish style sandwiches), Charcuteria meat plates and Boquerones (a white anchovies meal) along with Colombian and El Salvador coffee and organic teas.

The Ladies From Midnight Blue, at the Launch,
A brand new residency Rubix will also feature – offering a world music series launching on Saturday November 7 with Auntie Flo, Contours and more. Auntie Flo push a unique ‘Afro-futurist’ sound and garnered a ‘Scottish Album of the Year’ award nomination for his album release,  Future Rhythm Machine. It was also rated as one of the best albums of 2012.  DJ Tom Burford started ‘Contours’ as a project that incorporate beats from Africa and Latin America to explore an eclectic, fusionist rhythm between jazz, Afro-beat, electronic, house and soul music. Contours is the co-founder of Newcastle based Rubix club night and we’re thrilled to have them part of the ¡VAMOS! Social journey!
